Do I own the roundabout?
No. You own a certificate, a registration, and a feeling. The roundabout continues to be owned by the relevant highways authority, which does not know you exist.
Is the adoption really exclusive?
One adopter per roundabout, enforced by machine. We are not animals.
Can I adopt as a gift?
The Register considers it the finest gift available at this price point, and it would say so under oath.
What if my roundabout is demolished?
Roundabouts are occasionally decommissioned by persons with clipboards. The Register observes a period of mourning, marks the entry accordingly, and keeps it as a matter of historical record for as long as the Register stands. Your certificate and documents, naturally, remain yours regardless.
How long does my entry stay on the Register?
Your certificate and documents are yours to keep for good. The public Register is maintained for as long as the institution stands; should it ever cease, your documents remain entirely unaffected.
What do I actually receive?
A bundle of four personalised A4 documents (PDF), each in the Register's engraved survey-plate style: a Certificate of Adoption, bearing a plate of your roundabout's true road geometry, its certified class and your adoption number; a Surveyor's Report, a written assessment of the subject's character and merits; the Custodian's Handbook, setting out the gentle articles of custody; and a Locality Plate, mapping your roundabout within its neighbourhood. Plus your entry in the public Register, under your name, your alias, or anonymously — the Register does not judge.
Is this a legal document?
It is a novelty gift. It confers no legal rights, obligations, or right of way. The Register is confident you knew that.
Is the Register affiliated with my council or the highways authority?
No. The Register is an independent novelty gift service and is not affiliated with any local authority, highways body, or official adoption or sponsorship scheme. It catalogues public roundabouts from open map data alone.
I look after this roundabout in real life — can it be removed?
Yes, without quarrel. The Register lists public roundabouts from open map data; any local authority, highways body, or landowner may write to support@adoptaroundabout.co.uk to have a roundabout removed. On a request verified as coming from the authority or landowner in an official capacity, the entry is retired promptly and without fuss.
